For more than a decade both South Melbourne and the City of Melbourne have experienced exponential growth accompanied by the requisite renewal and enhancement of infrastructure…factors which have in turn, resulted in a reinvigorated local economy driven largely by the changing nature of doing business in the twenty-first century.

Fuelled largely by this growth and development and in line with State Government policy, the City of Port Phillip has implemented a range of planning initiatives designed to directly influence the future direction of building and construction within South Melbourne’s commercial and retail precincts. In particular the ‘South Melbourne Central’ planning initiative will impact heavily on the scale and direction of major redevelopment, particularly via the proposed re-zoning of the central business district of South Melbourne to more accurately reflect the changing face and character of South Melbourne as it re-emerges as a location of choice for the commercial and business sector.
